Lesson 9 Part 1:

Reading:

“Seeing The Sacred”
Suggested time: 15 minutes

Darśana is a word that is difficult to translate. I means both to see and to be seen simultaneously. It is the experience that pilgrims seek when they go on pilgrimages (Yatra) to visit holy places, holy persons, or potent icons of deities in temples. It is a fundamental experience common to the Dharma traditions. This excerpt from an entire book on the subject helps to introduce and clarify this important concept.
