Vedamurti Shri Vivek L. Godbole (Vedamūrti Śrī Vivek Goḍbole) is a world-renowned Vedic priest and teacher.  He is the fifteenth generation of his family to learn and practice the Taittirīya Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda.  He is the ācārya, senior teacher, of the Shree Krishna Yajurveda Pathshala in Satara, India.  The pāṭhaśāla is a residential school where students learn to recite, memorize, and imbibe the entire Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda through traditional oral learning methods.  Students also learn how to perform yajna, a powerful fire ceremony that is thousands of years old, and pūjā, ritual worship of the divine.  UNESCO recognized the school as part of “The Intangible Heritage of Humanity”.

The school is a major effort to preserve the endangered Hiraṇyakeśī branch of study of the Taittirīya Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda. Vivekji’s school has been recognized by many as the most significant effort to revitalize the tradition.  Both the Śaṅkarācārya-s of Shringeri and Kanchi honored him for his outstanding contributions to the preservation and teaching of Vedic knowledge.

Vivekbhau, as he is affectionately called, studied the Kṛṣṇa Yajūrveda for twelve years under the tutelage of his learned father.  He also studied Sāmaveda in the Govardhani style with Vedamūrti Śrī Somnāth Śāstrī Bāpat in Varānasi, where he was given an award for excellence by Sanga Veda Vidyālaya.  Vivek Śāstrījī has also received the Jyotish Shāstrī degree, and has also been teaching Vedic astrology classes for the last 10 years.

Śrī Vivek has participated in more than 50 large-scale yajnas – Vedic fire rituals – in India, the US and Europe, frequently in the key role of ācārya. He has lectured extensively both in the West and in India on aspects of the Vedic tradition. Śrī Vivek Śāstrī has conducted Vedic Sammelans – conferences – throughout Mahārāshtra and neighboring regions, helping to inspire the founding of new vedaśāla-s in these areas.

Śrī Vivek Śāstrī is widely known for his evocative and melodious chanting and exquisite pronunciation, and has published many recordings of sacred chants.  He has also written many articles on the Vedic tradition, and co-authored a book on Vedic culture. Vivekbhau has also been deeply inspired by his guru who is the master of a lineage that has its roots in Kashmiri Śaivism and Advaita Vedānta.

Vivekbhau is a gifted vocalist and enjoys singing in his free time.  His son – also an accomplished priest – recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy who keeps Vivekjī and his wife joyfully busy with grandparent duties.
