Lesson 18

Moving Forward: How To Continue with Ancestor Practices

First off, congratulations and thank you for completing this journey with us! Thank you for your dedication, your curiosity, and your willingness to learn and practice! Your effort to awaken benefit and impact everyone you encounter, which uplifts our world. On behalf of all of our ancestors, and also the children not yet born, thank you.

Where do we go from here? Whether or not you’ve been practicing each day, you might want to do one final round of practice and offering at your ancestor altar to ritually complete this time.

And speaking of altars, if you’ve built one, we encourage you to leave it up. Even if you don’t make offerings everyday, it’s like any new relationship – you want to keep it going and growing. Now that you’ve invited them into your conscious awareness, even a little bit of regular attention and dialogue will go a long way.

For anyone who’s feeling stuck in their everyday life stuff – relationships, family, career, low self-esteem, etc – we highly recommend that you continue daily ancestor practice along with your regular spiritual practice. It can take time to move through these patterns so if you’ve got momentum going already, keep it up!

When their subconscious patterns push us to act from a limited space (for example, that voice that says “have another drink, you’re never going to make something of yourself anyway”), we can recognize it as their voice, not ours. We can pause. And, we can choose to listen to the voice of the divine, the voice of our wisdom teachers, and the voice of our heart. And then we can act. The more quiet and compassionate we become, the more we can withstand those impulses and even tame them through our stillness and clarity.

As for what practices you can do – well, we’ve covered many, many different practices in this course. Any one of them can be done daily or weekly. Traditionally, we make some time every New Moon to remember the ancestors. And finally, simply remembering your ancestors and sharing some of the blessings with them each time you practice also works just fine!

We hope this course has been helpful and beneficial for you. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
